After being approved by the S.C. House with a 99-1 vote, a State Senate subcommittee made amendments to the Samantha Josephson Rideshare Safety Act

On April 23rd, senators changed the bipartisan bill, H4380, which was filed on April 2nd and approved by the House on April 10, when it eliminated the requirement for a lighted sign displaying a ridesharing company's logo and replaced it with a requirement to display a license plate on the front of the vehicle.

"I have always said that the initial safety measure in verifying one's rideshare should be at a distance. When I researched the issue, I found illuminated signage used... to help you find your rideshare at nighttime," said bill co-sponsor Rep. Seth Rose (D-Columbia). "When I found this was being done elsewhere, I thought that was the best way to move forward. However, I do think that what (has been done will) still be an improvement to what we currently have under South Carolina law. I'm pleased to see them take it up and move it forward.
