In a record-setting pace, the S.C. House of Representatives approved the Samantha Josephson Rideshare Safety Act by a 99-1 vote. Because it was approved before the "cross-over deadline," the bill now heads to the State Senate for approval before it can be signed into law by Governor Henry McMaster.

The bipartisan bill, H4380, was filed on April 2nd and attracted considerable media attention. Sponsored by Rep. Seth Rose (D-Columbia) and Rep. Micah Caskey (R-West Columbia), the legislation requires all rideshare vehicles to display an illuminated sign that must be visible from 50 feet away. Josephson was found murdered in Clarendon County after the last-known video of her showed her getting into the back seat of a car she believed to be from a ridesharing service.
